We had our Wedding

“Lucky Find”
My husband and I were en route to Hastings; hungry and thirsty! We popped into The Lodge – what a great decision! Hubby had ham, egg and chips and said it was the best ever. The ham was beautiful – thick and lean and so much of it. I had a cheese and pickle baguette – yummy. We then sat on the sofas for lovely coffee. Very nice young lady greeted us and served us – made us very welcome.
We wished we had booked our stay here instead of the hotel in Hastings! It was nearer for the event we were going to as well. Oh well … next time!!

“Great place to stay”
There was 20 of us staying at this great hotel and all thoroughly enjoyed it the room was good the food was good and the breakfast was excellent great value for money The staff were very accommodating definitely go back here again.

“Very relaxing”
Nice place to stay, nice bar, very nice restaurant, and great staff. We stayed for 2 nights, we were able to park in a car port under our room which was very handy on a wet and windy weekend. Excellent location for the 5min drive into Rye for window shopping. Breakfast was continental but if you want cooked they can do that also. Friendly staff.

“It’s a great choice”
I have stayed at the lodge many times. Alone, with friends & family. Its a great base for many reasons. Its just outside historic Winchelsea town which is on top of a hill, below is Winchelsea beach & beyond Rye. The great upside is you can stay at the Lodge, park comfortably. Rest & relax in this quiet spot. Get up early, have breakfast. Then get to the beach or into the historic towns early & get parked! This becomes more important the older I get! The Lodge is similar to American motels. However it looks & is a lot nicer. Its clean. It has a large barn like building which is contemporary styled & is the place for breakfast. They also have excellent evening meals & Sunday lunches. They have upstairs & downstairs rooms on two floors only. I have stayed in twin rooms & family rooms. All good. If you want ground floor to save your legs! Remember to ask at time of booking. I highly recommend this great little gem. Don’t forget to visit Spike Milligans grave in Winchelsea town.

“First visit in donkeys years”
Hadn’t visited the place since it was a pub many, many years ago and was really impressed with every aspect of The Lodge. Very friendly welcome and an excellent choice of both dishes and menus. The food was faultless and couldn’t believe the prices! Two really delicious lasagnes with garlic bread and salad, one Eton Mess and a delicious Bakewell Tart and ice cream, throw in a couple of drinks and a bill for £23!!!!!! We will certainly be coming back.

“Excellent stay”
We stayed at the lodge for two nights, the staff were excellent and couldn’t do enough for us, Our room was lovely really clean and furnished really well all very comfortable. We had a meal in the restaurant and it was delicious very quick service and the prices were really reasonable, unfortunately we didn’t get the young lads name that served us that night but he really made sure we had an enjoyable evening thank you. The continental breakfast was lovely everything we needed.

“Excellent weekend at The Lodge”
We took a weekend break in Rye and stayed at The Lodge, Staff were Great, very helpful, the room was very clean, everything you need was there, they are spacious so you don’t feel cramped, The bar is open all day and the Sun was shining,so drinks on the terrace were order of the day.
The restaurant serves great food of an evening, or sandwiches during the day, Breakfast is continental or you can have a hearty Full English if you want.
Easy to get to Rye from the Lodge but you would need a car or the staff will arange a taxi for you.
Good all round value 100% 5*****

“Excellent restaurant”
My wife and I ate at The Lodge on Saturday 25th April. The menu is comprehensive and reasonably priced. We had two prawn cocktails, liver and bacon and a hunter’s chicken. All were good sized portions and served in an efficient and cheerful manner. The duty manager was attentive and friendly and all in all I would certainly return in the future!

“A little gem”
Went for Easter Sunday lunch. Because they were busy and there were 13 of us including 6 children they put us in the function room downstairs. Staff were v attentive and helpful even though they were busy and we were out of sight. The Carvery was faultless, well cooked, quality meats and a good choice of vegetables. Will definitely visit again.

“Great Restaurant”
what a great place the lodge is we went to the carvery today and as usual the food was superb, the meat was cooked to perfection all the veg was hot and well cooked topped with lovely gravy, and the bonoffi pie mess was to die for, A big thank you to Toby and his staff who always make us feel very welcome with a friendly smile and as always helpful (a real credit to the lodge) thanks again cant wait until our next visit

“Late Sunday lunch for non-residents”
We stopped at The Lodge just by chance around 4 pm last Sunday and were lucky enough to be able to have a lovely lunch from the carvery. It was late in the day for lunch and to early for dinner, so we hadn’t really expected to get anything nice anywhere, but we were wrong!! The staff were welcoming the setting was nice and the dining restaurant was clean and pleasant (not sure about the artificial flowers and fairy lights but what the heck)!! I can honestly say it was one of the nicest carvery meals we have had anywhere . My turkey was delicious, moist and tender, and whilst the roasted veg was past its best as was to be expected at that time of day, the broccoli cheese, peas and carrots were very nice indeed, the Yorkshire pud was huge and the gravy very flavoursome and everything was piping hot. We had creme brulee for dessert from a good choice of options and left feeling replete and ready for a nap. An experience we shall definitely be repeating and can highly recommend.

“Sunday Lunch”
Great place for carvery. Friendly staff and wonderful with children. Clean and bright restaurant/bar. We had the carvery, huge Yorkshire puds! While my youngest had fish and chips, which was a very good size.

“Stopped in for Lunch”
Bank holiday Monday & we decided to go for a day out Driving from Folkestone we noticed The Lodge which had a sign ‘food served all day’. On the way back from Hastings at 2.30pm we decided to pop in. What a lovely surprise. The lunch was really great. We had the carvery which was good even at that time. Staff very friendly and we will definitely stop off there again. Would thoroughly recommend.

“Lovely Food”
The Staff where really friendly the food was brilliant the whole place was clean and well kept really lovley restaurant beautiful views would advice any one to try it out we will definitely be going again

“Wedding Weekend”
Had a fantastic time here this weekend….the rooms were lovely and welcoming….and also the restaurant and bar were high standard..service was excellent and the Manager Toby Darkins was very helpful and accommodating….would highly recommend a stay here and a great place for a function…..

“Friends Wedding Reception”
My friends were married last Tuesday, 20/09/2011 and booked their reception at The Lodge. At first I wasn’t totally sure it was the best of choices. How wrong could I be? The staff were absolutely superb from the initial booking and throughout the whole reception. Toby the manager was very helpful allowing and helping me to decorate the restaurant. All of the staff were exceptional, the carvery very good. The whole event went without a hitch at all, except me being a little tipsy! Rooms are a little basic but fine for a stop over. Cooked breakfast very good also. Big Thank You to all who made Judy & Howard’s wedding reception very relaxed and seamless.

“Wedding Reception”
When choosing our venue for our wedding reception, we knew that we didn’t want a run of the mill “wedding package” type place.
We wanted somewhere where our preferences were considered and you weren’t boxed off as just another wedding. The Lodge at Winchelsea offered this and so much more.
From the first meeting with Toby Darkins, the manager, we knew it was the venue for us. Toby has such a professional and caring manner, we knew our wedding was in very safe hands.

The food was superb, our guests commented on how nice it was to have proper, well done food as opposed to traditional bland wedding chicken in white sauce! Everything was handmade by the chef right down to the pate and the desserts and the quality really did show through. Toby’s hospitality on the day made everything run seamlessly and the whole team worked tirelessly serving guests and keeping the venue tidy. All the staff came across happy and bubbly even though we appreciate it was a very long day for them.

Nothing was too much trouble and Toby was available via email, telephone and in person pretty much 24 hours a day!
We hired out all of the 26 rooms, as we had many guests travelling long distances to be at our special day. The rooms were excellent, very clean and brilliant value for money. The next morning everyone who stayed (and a few others came back) shared in a huge English breakfast and the staff were just as bubbly as the night before. It was the perfect end to a perfect day.

The Lodge at Winchelsea is a quirky modern alternative for a medium sized wedding, set in stunning countryside with the friendliest team you could ask for.
We couldn’t recommend this venue highly enough. It made our wedding day the day of our dreams.
